Apply for a Tertiary SmartRider:
Eligibility & Process

Navigating the vibrant city of Perth and its surroundings has never been easier with SmartRider, the innovative contactless electronic ticketing system embraced by the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia.

As an IST student, SmartRider can ensure your journey to and from campus is as smooth and efficient as possible. Interested in applying for a Tertiary SmartRider and not sure how if you are eligible or how to apply, we are here to help.

You are eligible to apply for a Tertiary SmartRider with IST if you meet the following:

  • You have enrolled with IST and received confirmation of your enrolment.
  • The course that you are enrolled in with IST has a duration of 6 weeks or more.
  • The course you are enrolled in must have a minimum of 12 contact hours per week.
  • If you have already commenced your course you can submit your application at any time, if your course has not yet started a Tertiary SmartRider application can be submitted within 2 weeks of the commencement date of your course.

 

How to Apply

1. Complete the Smart Rider application ensuring you have read the “Conditions of Application”, sign the Student Declaration. The form can be completed electronically via:  SmartRider_Tertiary_Form.pdf (transperth.wa.gov.au)

2. Upload the completed SmartRider form to the IST application form.

3. Upon submission IST will review your application and respond via email within 5 business days.

4. Upon approval it is the student’s responsibility to submit the approved form to any Transperth InfoCentre or authorised SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet. You will need to purchase the SmartRider card ($5 for tertiary students) if you do not already have one, to use the card immediately you will also need to pay eg. $5 to put a travel value on the card.

Please note: IST will not authorise an extension of a SmartRider outside of your enrolled class end date, the only exception being for those qualifications that have a compulsory workplace training requirement where 2 months will be granted.

Please ensure you understand the requirements of using a Transperth SmartRider.

*Industry Skills training is classified as a non-participating tertiary institution with Transperth. Non participating institutions are institutions which have NOT entered into an agreement with Transperth to exchange student enrolment data.
